AMMAN, Jordan: Jordan’s King Abdullah II has reiterated his demand for an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza.

He also called for the “uninterrupted delivery of adequate aid” during a phone conversation with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Tuesday, state news agency PETRA reported on Wednesday.

Abbas commended Jordan’s role in supporting Palestinians and their human rights, highlighting Jordan’s unwavering support to stop the war on Gaza, while also rejecting the displacement of Palestinians, and safeguarding Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem under the Hashemite Custodianship.

There have been almost 33,000 deaths in Gaza since Israel began its retaliatary attacks against Hamas after the Islamist group carried out its deadly Oct. 7 raid on Israel.
